Make your own Merlin Costume

The granddaddy of all wizards, Merlin dates back hundreds of years as the wise sorcerer giving counsel King Arthur. In fact, it was the wise Merlin that catapulted Arthur to his reign by leading him to pull the famous sword “Excalibur” from the stone. As legend has it, Merlin is now under a curse that has him in a slumber that may never end. If you are a fan of Camelot or wizards and magical things in general, Merlin costume is definitely a spell–binding choice.

Items needed to make your Merlin Costume

Items Needed:
Long purple robe or
Purple fabric and pattern
Poster board
Purple spray paint
Silver fabric paint
Star stamp
Curled toe shoes
Long white wig
Long white beard/mustache
Wizard props


Step 1: First and foremost, you will need robes worthy of a wizard. Something long, full and in a regal and mysterious color such as deep purple or midnight blue. The fabric should be a rich thick satin or a plush velvet and feature long bell–style sleeves. Adorn the robes with silver stars that you stamp on with fabric paint; set aside to dry.

Step 2: Create the stereotypical wizard hat with poster board that his been rolled into a cone shape; secure with tape. Spray paint with purple paint and once dried also stamp silver starts in a random pattern. When ready to wear, secure with bobby pins.

Step 3: To give off the vibe of a venerable and wise practitioner of magic, you will need silver white hair that is very long and a coordinating beard and mustache. Unless you have been growing your hair out for a very, very long time, you will need a wizard wig and beard!

Step 4: Accessorize your wizard costume with curled toe shoes in a complementary color and one of many wizard props such as a wand, crystal ball, or small pouch filled with enchantments.
