Make your own Grinch Costume

He looks like a mean one, that Mr. Grinch. Folks say he’s got garlic in his soul, but we know that this “villain“ from the Dr. Seuss classic “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas“ is really a softy at heart. If you want to dress up as this green guy who steals Christmas from all the Whos down in Whoville (and then gives it all back), you can easily do so with a few supplies and an hour of time. If you need some inspiration, just think of actor Jim Carey who portrayed the Grinch in the movie version of this story.

Items needed to make your Grinch Costume

Items Needed:
Green sweat pants
Green crewneck sweatshirt
Small pillow
Green faux fur
Heart appliqué
Santa Hat
Green face paint
Green shoes or socks

Step 1: First you’ll need a pair of comfortable green sweatpants and a crewneck green sweatshirt. Cut the green faux fur into 4–inch to 6–inch wide strips and glue onto the cuffs and waistband of the sweat shirt. Next, glue or sew on the red appliqué heart right above where your real heart is. Strap a small pillow around your belly with a belt for the look of the Grinch’s petite pot belly.

Step 2: Plop a Santa hat on for your really lousy impersonation of jolly ole St. Nick plus, bring along a big burlap bag to gather up (and eventually bring back) all the gifts, decorations and goodies of Christmas.

Step 3: Paint your face green all over with face paints and use a black eyeliner pencil to add in the detail of this scrooge–like guy.

Step 4: For your feet, wear a pair of green shoes (you can paint old ones) or even just a pair of big green socks that you pull over your sneakers as shoe covers.
