Make your own Abraham Lincoln Costume

Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States and served during the middle part of the 19th century until he was assassinated. Known as “Honest Abe“, this lawyer by training helped reunite the North and South after the Civil War and also helped bring an end to slavery within the United States. Perfect for a President’s Day celebration or a school project, making an Abraham Lincoln costume is something you can do yourself to recreate history.

Items needed to make your Abraham Lincoln Costume

Items Needed:
Black Pants
Long black Jacket
White Shirt
Bow tie
Stove pipe hat
Faux beard

Step 1: You need to put together a suit that looks like it came from the 1800s. Dark trousers paired with a longer frock or duster style coat is perfect. For a dressier look, you can add a vest and bow tie and give off a truly presidential image.

Step 2: A must–have for any Abraham Lincoln costume is a black stove pipe hat. These flat–crowned, broad–brimmed hats were popular during the era. These super tall top hats were a favorite with Lincoln who was rumored to have stashed away his important papers inside instead of carrying a briefcase.

Step 3: Aside from his tall stature, Abraham Lincoln was also known for his distinctive facial hair. Amazingly enough, before his presidential campaign, he was clean–shaven but a letter from a young girl suggestive that he would look better with a beard lead to the Amish–looking beard that has become indelibly linked to him. You can by a Lincoln wig or use charcoal to rub dark smudges on your chin and cheeks.

Step 4: If you desire to accessorize your Abraham Lincoln costume, you can add a pocket watch or some antique–looking scrolled papers for a history–making look.
