Make your own Alice in Wonderland Costume

A fantasy tale penned in1865 by Lewis Carroll, “Alice in Wonderland“ is still popular today in part to Disney’s cartoon adaptation. The young Alice falls through a looking glass into a bizarre and unusual land filled with characters such as the Mad Hatter, Cheshire Cat and Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. Making an Alice in Wonderland costume isn’t a hard undertaking and in no time you’ll be sipping tea at an un–birthday party!

Items needed to make your Alice in Wonderland Costume

Items Needed:
Light blue dress, as sexy or girly as you prefer
White apron, pinafore or white trash bags for alternative
White stockings
Mary Jane shoes
Blonde wig
Black headband or bow

Instructions:

Step 1: Rummage through your closet to find a cute light blue dress, you can be as demure or daring as you like. While a traditional Alice costume has a fitting bodice, puffy sleeves and a skirt fully gathered at the waist a sexy Lycra number that hugs your curves would be a fun interpretation.

Step 2: Layer a white apron or pinafore over the dress. If you don’t have a suitable apron, make a very inexpensive substitution with white kitchen–sized 13–gallon plastic trash bags. Without opening the trash bag, gather it up to circumference of your waist along the top layer with a thread and needle. From another bag, cut an 8–inch wide strip from the length of the bag (not cutting the bottom, so that it can be opened up and made double long). Centering in the middle, tape “sash“ to front side of apron, fold sash in half lengthwise and tape where it meets the backside of skirt. Wear with the apron hanging in front and a big bow tied in the back.

Step 3: Wear white tights, white fishnets stockings or even sexy thigh–highs along with a pair of girlish, black Mary Jane shoes. Black ballet flats or sexy stiletto pumps also make good substitutions.

Step 4: If you don’t have long, blond hair, don a light–blonde wig that falls to the shoulders; Alice is often shown with bangs. A wide black headband or big black satin bow tied through the hair gives this Alice in Wonderland the finishing touch.
