The term hobo refers to a homeless person, especially those who hop freight trains as transportation for their nomadic lives.  The stereotypical image of a hobo began during the Great Depression, as shabbily dresses men, down on their luck and carrying a their world’s possessions tied in a bandana dangling from a stick slung over the shoulders.
