The Crusades were a series of wars waged by the Christian church that began in 1095 and continued through the Medieval era. The crusaders considered their undertaking as a journey or pilgrimage and took a vow to be fulfilled upon their arrival in Jerusalem. The Crusades have been depicted in popular culture in movies such as “The Kingdom of Heaven” and “The Crusades”.

Crusader Costumes Ideas

A crusader costume is reflective of the clothing style during the medieval period.  Many types of dress are available including a child’s crusader costume that features a 5-piece set with helmet, breast plate, shield, sword and sheath. Made of plastic, the set resembles the armor worn be knights and features the symbolic logo of the crusades – a cross. There were many knightly orders in which to fashion a crusader costume after including the Knights of  Malta, Teutonic Knights and Knights Templar.  A templer knight feature a cream tunic with fabric cross emblem, black shirt, pants and cowl embellished in silver to replicate chain mail.  A long cloak with chain front closure and black belt and boot tops complete the look.
