CHILD HOLIDAY: Thanksgiving Halloween Costumes

Celebrate Thanksgiving this year like it was the very first! Suit up in authentic-looking thanksgiving costumes representing the Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag Indians from the year 1621 and gather to break bread together in celebration of the fall harvest and newly formed friendships. Today, Thanksgiving is a time when families join together from all over to enjoy each other’s company over a shared meal of the traditional turkey, sweet potatoes and pumpkin pie. Of course, television watching has been incorporated in to the modern observance of this holiday with the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade in the morning and many football games in the afternoon.

If you want to dress up for thanksgiving but need a great costume, don’t get your feathers ruffled because there are many to choose from. Reenact the first feast with pilgrim costumes featuring early colonial wear and Native American costumes made of fringed and beaded buckskin and feather headdresses. Moccasins, a bow and quiver of arrows, war face paints, turquoise jewelry, peace pipes and other Native American jewelry will lend an authentic look to your Thanksgiving costume. Or, for a silly yet “tasteful” costume, come dressed in a larger-than-life turkey mascot costume or any vegetable or fruit from the cornucopia of food.
